GEOREFERENCING AND RECTIFYING


Aim: To Georeference and rectify the provided(link at bottom) topographic sheets
Material used: ArcMap 10.2
Procedure
1. Open ArcMap 10.2 click blank templates ok
2. To add image : Add data   select image ok
3. Open georeferencing toolbox. Click on customize   toolbars check Georeferencing
4. Add control points from the georeferencing toolbar Left click on the center of one coordinates point followed by right click input DMS of Lon and Lat or DD for x and y (users preferences)


5. Add both latitude and longitude values
DMS
Decimal Degree(DD)
If the toposheet vanished from the interface simple from the table of content
DMS can be converted into DD by the following equation.
DD= Degree + minutes/60 +seconds/3600
e.g 77 degree 10 min = 77.17
6. Add coordinates for the remaining 3 sides in the same manner.
7. To check RMS value for determining errors
Select view link table
8. Rectify image (Export in tiff format)
Georeferencing rectify   select output folder   enter file name   ok
9. Open the rectified image through the add data tab.

Additional
To change the Toposheet Lon Lat value from meter to DMS. Right click Data frame properties General DMS
